Deism: A Beautiful Philosophy

It never ceases to amaze me how relevant Thomas Paine’s theological work is to our modern era. To me it is like he wrote the contents of this book (The Age of Reason: The Complete Edition) today.

This is a great compilation.

Mr. Paine knew God very well, as well as a man can know God on this plane.

Mr. Paine was very smart, and very courageous.

To him the American Revolution was a revolution in government and religion.

Deism is a beautiful philosophy that sees God through nature.

Our God-given reason speaks to us of this Creator.

I think a lot of people are Deists, believing in God, but not the madness of mind control “revealed” religion.

Think for yourself!

Follow the peacefulness of God, who moves through the silence, not the noise of false prophets, who will tell you what God wants you to do … for them. God doesn’t need your tithes. God is, with or without you. But if you feel the pull of your Creator in your spirit, this most excellent book can make the Author of the Universe clearer for you, and cost you only the price of the book.

The compilers of this book (The World Union of Deists) did the world a favor by publishing this book. Check it out.

Reason at Lunch

I had lunch with a friend the other day. I guess you could say he's Roman Catholic. Out of the blue he asked me if I believed in God and without letting me answer he said,"There probably isn't. How come there are no more miracles anymore?"

Interesting stuff.

The man on the street is thinking and rejecting fables of old.

There is definitely a reason movement in the air and people are realizing that the gods of old are man-made myths.

But also deep in their souls they feel the pull of their Creator and nature shows the Source's face.

All Pentecostals are fakes!

All Pentecostals are fakes!

Either all out fakes or self-deceived fakes.

They believe in a literal, perfect Jesus-god and either imprison themselves in some very restrictive “godly” lifestyle or fake it while living in the shadows. And the glossolalia. Need I say more?

Better to be true.

Better to be free.

Better to be Deist.

Nature still talks to Deists.

The dusty schizoid Bible-god still wears sandals and a tunic with infidel blood dripping from his hands.

Get out in the fresh air!

The Supreme Intelligent Being put it there for you.

It’s easier to reason there!

All prophets are false!

All prophets are false!

Take your time with a prophet and in a short while you will honestly realize this person is a false prophet. Unfortunately, many false prophets are very good at what they do, being sociopaths for the most part.

You might be hooked into some thoughts and phraseology that seem to be perfectly enlightened understandings of God, but with time one realizes that these folks are not prophets as advertised at all, but humans with corrupt minds, who will lead you down a blind alley and separate you from your money and your life.

THINK FOR YOURSELF WITH YOUR GOD-GIVEN REASON!!!

I’ve run into false prophets my entire life. From deranged Pastor’s wives to TV star Pat Robertson. Not so much anymore since I’ve left the religion game, and it is a game, behind.

Even the man-made Bible says if a prophet is not 100% right 100% of the time, they are a false prophet.

Check out that wacky Charisma magazine for a boat load of false prophecy or the New Testament for the false prophecy of the return of Jesus-god in the generation of its revelation. And remember, it’s easy to write “prophecy” after the fact!!!

You don’t need a guru when you have a free mind.

Life is so much more sweet with the reason loving God of Nature, than a stern nationalist go get ‘em Moses-god or an exclusive Jesus-god or an off with their heads Mohamet-god or some kinky Volcano-god.

Anyway that’s something that just occurred to me that I thought I’d share with you.

Deism (belief in God and rejection of revealed religion) trusts no prophets or clerics, leaves your bank account and mind intact, and trusts in Nature’s God exclusively.

To me this is the honest way to be part of God.

Theism = Deism

Just a point of clarification. Deism and Theism in their original definitions mean EXACTLY the same thing.

The root for Deism is Latin for God and the root for Theism is Greek for God.

The trickster and Christian Literalist, Noah Webster, defined Deism as belief in a distant God and Theism belief in an interactive God.

Like Deists of old and new, I believe in both.

What better way to explain God during a disasterous tsunami or in helping you get through a rough night with a sick child.

I agree with George Washington's belief in a Providence who is inscrutable.

The Creator is mysterious. At this point in our communal evolution, we'll just have to live with that.

Bob Johnson illuminates the matter:

One common mistake Dan Brown made in the interview is when he said, "Deists believe that a supreme being created the universe but that being is impersonal. It won't answer your prayers or even hear them." This is a definition of Deist given by Noah Webster who was a very strict Christian. In reality, there is no dogma in Deism so Deists are free to believe whatever makes the most sense to them. Some Deists fit this definition while others do not. For example, some Deists believe God intervenes through Providence. However, Deists do tend to agree with George Washington who said that Providence is "inscrutable".

In a letter given the title Worship and Church Bells, Thomas Paine distinctly states his understanding that the two terms Theism and Deism are one and the same:

The modes of worship are as various as the sects are numerous; and amidst all this variety and multiplicity there is but one article of belief in which every religion in the world agrees. That article has universal sanction. It is the belief of a God, or what the Greeks described by the word Theism, and the Latins by that of Deism.

Deist Scholar

This woman (What makes sense to me II) is a Deist scholar!

She simply believes in a Creator and rejects revealed religion.

She's very humble.

She speaks her mind without a sledge hammer.

Religion doesn't make sense to her.

Her reason tells her "there is only one creator ... or force ..."

To me, she is very wise.

She comments on how most gods are national/regional creations.

She doesn't feel the need to recruit people like holy book fanatics. She feels this within herself using her God-given reason.

Her ideas are deep and very modern. She states, through her reasoning, things I've heard scholars with many degrees teach with authority.

She says Holy Books are metaphors to deal with life's issues.

Hell doesn't make sense to her, but our Creator does.

This woman's YouTube site name MyBodyIsMyTemple reminds me of Thomas Paine saying his mind was his church and Thomas Jefferson saying, "I am a sect by myself, as far as I know."

This woman is a breath of fresh air and how I think many people who think about God think about God.

The Deist Universe

The objects in this photo would take 1,500 years to reach.
Think of that and think of the Creator of it all.
What a spectacular being.
And all of us are part of it: so close and yet so far.
It is the one true, evident realization of God.
Thanx to nature.
Thanx to science.
Thanx be to God!
